Synopsis: We use the word redemption easily in daily life. It’s just a matter of regaining something of value - five cents for an empty returnable bottle. But its routes were in the ancient and common practice of slavery. To be redeemed is to be freed. This weekend marks the celebration of the end of slavery in the U.S. It is a past we are all struggling to be redeemed from. Our faith in Christ offers us a way toward real redemption and with that true freedom a chance at reconciliation with our neighbors and ourselves. Happy Father’s Day!
