Synopsis: Today, on this third Sunday of Advent, we light a candle to celebrate our anticipation of joy for the Messiah’s birth. But today’s gospel lesson teaches us that we are also have to be patient in our joy. The hope promised with the birth of Jesus – a world of peace – is still something we anticipate as Christians. In Advent we pray for the strength to find joy in the waiting for God’s promise to be fulfilled.
